KAMCouncil Notes:

From Gloria Rainer, KAM Council President, Issue #7 (January–February 2012)

Dear Council Friends,

Happy New Year to you all! January has arrived and we are looking forward to a very busy spring semester at Krannert Art Museum. The Spring 2012 Private Members' Reception is scheduled for January 26, 2012, from 5:00–6:00 pm with Michaels catering the event. There will be a gallery conversation by Carolee Schneemann at 6:00 pm in the East Gallery. From 6:00–7:00 pm the KAM Council will host the public opening reception. I hope you will be able to attend. Please remember to call Chris Schaede at 244-0516 to RSVP.

For the last two weeks I have been observing the very focused and dedicated work of the KAM staff as the new exhibitions are being installed. To my eye, the Noel Gallery is now complete and the Contemporary Gallery is beginning to sparkle with glass works of art in the Fifty Years: Contemporary American Glass
From Illinois Collections exhibit curated by Jon Liebman. I know many of you have been waiting for this exhibition and you will not be disappointed. I would suggest you read the museum's Spring 2012 News which recently arrived at your address and discover other interesting background information about these new exhibitions.

Planning is well underway for Petals and Paintings. I hope you have already marked your calendar to be at the Petals and Paintings Opening party on Friday, April 20. This is our 20th anniversary and we plan on it being a special celebration. You have recently received a sponsorship letter from Brenda Nardi and me and we both would be very grateful if you would choose to be a sponsor for this event.  We would appreciate your additional support so much.

On Thursday, February 2, we will have our first, "Art in the Afternoon" at 4:15 pm. This is an opportunity for interested Council members to gather together to learn more about art. Each month a member of the group will make a presentation about a work of art from the museum's collection. If you think you might be interested in joining us, but are unsure, please feel free to come for a session or two. You are very welcome.

I look forward to seeing many of you often at the museum. Please remember the opening on Thursday, January 26.

Warm regards,

Gloria
