About us

Make a Difference at Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion

Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion (KAM), located on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana-Champaign, is the second largest fine art museum in Illinois. Established in May 1961, the museum has become a leader among university art museums.

The museum houses approximately 10,000 original works of art— treasures that span 6,000 years and represent the cultures of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.  In addition to its permanent collection the museum mounts outstanding temporary exhibitions throughout the year in a welcoming and spacious environment.

KAM offers an active schedule of public programming that engages diverse audiences from the campus and local communities. Visitors of all ages enjoy activities including gallery conversations, artist and curator talks, film screenings, music and dance performances, poetry readings, open-mic, tango, and yoga. The museum additionally offers school and public tours, and each semester hosts the popular family festival Kids@Krannert.

A valuable community resource, KAM is committed to bringing dynamic exhibitions and educational events to our community and to the entire region.

Krannert Art Museum Council

The Krannert Art Museum Council is the museum’s volunteer support group. Established in 1964 to assist the museum with its activities and programs, the Council has its own by-laws, committees, and governing board of officers.

Council members work closely with others who share an interest in art and acquire an understanding of the inner workings of an art museum—expanding the museum’s outreach to the community.

Acting as ambassadors, the Council serves in a volunteer capacity and supports the museum by:

·         Providing financial support through fundraising events

·         Hosting opening night receptions for exhibitions

·         Serving on committees, such as the Gelvin Gardens

·         Arranging events featuring guest speakers

·         Organizing art-related bus trips and lecture luncheons

·         Supporting KAM programs and events
